Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

We must thank Monty Python’s Eric Idle for this comedy gem that, for me, sums up the Great British sense of humour. It’s one of the skills that I admire most about your average athlete, the ability to crack a joke at even the lowest of moments. When you’re in some disastrous situation that seems devoid of any positives, one of the team will drop a gag that soon has you all in stitches and the cloud of doom is suddenly that bit clearer. Ever since I was in circumstance where all seemed lost and one of the team then began singing Eric Idle’s classic, it has been my secret weapon of last resort. This is not only for team efforts but also when you’re in your low dungeon of pain; Never Follow and ‘always look on the bright side of life’.
