“I Never Lose, I Either Win or learn” – Nelson Mandela

“I Never Lose, I Either Win or learn” – Nelson Mandela

July 12, 2020

For those lacking an answer to the question; ‘what is your favourite quote?’, may I propose the above from Nelson Mandela. Eyebrows are normally raised on hearing the first half of the quote but then quickly replaced by smiles of appreciation on digesting the remainder; a quote of two halves. While defeat can simply be attained to outperformance, one must be sure to analyse more thoroughly the factors that allowed others to cross the finish line ahead. Are they training and racing harder, better, smarter? Shelve the pointless excuses and replay the race with a critical eye. Identify your weaknesses and their strengths, learn where your gains need to be made and then set about building a plan to achieve them. Defeat should not get you down but get you motivated to take to the next start line an improved competitor. Never Follow the defeated, look to Mandela and learn from the victors, using their strengths to help build your success.
